The format can change.
The quality cannot.
Cans expand where, when and how wine can be enjoyed. But a new format brings new questions, and the experience matters.
The Canned Wine Consortium exists to bring the industry together around those questions: sharing what we know, strengthening the consumer experience and building the category with the quality, knowledge and confidence to match.
Building the category together.
CWC brings together canned wine brands, industry partners and researchers to share knowledge, pursue research and advance best practices while building visibility, confidence and opportunities for wine in cans.
Advance the Category
Build visibility and acceptance for wine in cans and create a stronger collective voice for the industry.
Advance the Knowledge
Support research, education, industry insights and the exchange of best practices.
Advance the Community
Create connections and collaboration across the brands, suppliers, researchers and organizations building the category.
Quality is the first proof point.
Wine presents unique considerations when packaged in aluminum. The wine itself, can liners, packaging conditions and storage can all influence how it develops over time.
CWC supports research and shared learning that help the industry better understand those interactions and translate emerging science into useful knowledge and best practices.
Our work builds on research initiated in 2020 with Cornell University examining the formation of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), a potential source of undesirable aromas in canned wine. The research explored how variables including can liners and packaging conditions can affect wine quality over time.
Better information. Better outcomes. Better wine.

Built by the people building the category.
CWC brings together perspectives from across wine, packaging, research and the broader industry.

Help build what comes next.
The canned wine category is still being built. The more knowledge we share, and the more perspectives we bring to the table, the stronger it becomes. CWC welcomes businesses and organizations working in and around wine in cans, from producers and packaging partners to researchers and other industry participants.
If you’re interested in contributing to the work and helping shape the future of the category, we’d like to hear from you.
